A government delegation, headed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis, inspected on Wednesday the current preparations by various government bodies to launch the 59th edition of Damascus International Fair due to be held next August.

Premier Khamis listened to detailed explanation of the accomplished works in connection with the booking of spaces for participants, the preparation of pavilions, cultural events and accompanying exhibits, the transporting of citizens to and from the exhibition, the countries that confirmed their participation and the situation of cleanliness, maintenance, green spaces, electricity and networks.

He highlighted the importance of continuous coordination between government bodies, economic actors, federations, exporters and chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture to have an active role in various stages of the exhibition and to promote integration and partnership in the work between the public and private sectors, calling on the ministries of Local Administration and Environment, Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and Transport to identify the responsibilities related to the status and maintenance of roads and the cultivated areas and afforestation.

In a press statement, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil said that there is a clear interest on the part of the federations to participate in the exhibition, indicating that there are spaces for the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and exporters that exceeded 25,000 square meters, in addition to the areas of the public sector which exceeded 17,000 square meters.

He pointed out that there are also contributions from the private sector that exceeded 8,000 square meters, in addition to pavilions for the traditional and manual professions.

Damascus International Fair, the Syrian economy’s window to the world, is brought back to life again after several years of forced absence due to the terrorist war inflicted upon the country.

The famous and well-reputed Fair has defied all the extremely harsh coercive economic measures imposed unilaterally on Syria to be revived and held on August 17-26, surpassing all the repercussions of the war and succeeding to attract many Arab and foreign companies to join its activities.
